The Hilversum Chapter
has a service called the "Visiting You Group" (abbreviated: BVU in
Dutch).
The BVU Group is comprised of a number of volunteers who visit people's
homes, as the name states. This concerns a lot of people here who are
bound to their home due to old-age and/or sicknesses. A visit from
someone with a listening-ear is greatly appreciated by these people in
particular. Aside from these visits, errands and attachment services
are also done by the volunteers.
More specifically, this additional help may include:
doing one's groceries, accompanying someone to the hospital, talking a walk
with someone who otherwise wouldn't be able to go outside.
Moreover, the BVU Group cooperates with the Salvation Army, when the
Salvation Army is organizing week-openings at various Elderly Care Centers
in Hilversum. The BVU group will take of vocal contributions, declamations
and bible readings there.
On National Patients' Sunday (2nd Sunday of September), the volunteers from
the BVU Group give some attention to each of the elderly and sick folk who
are listen in the BVU directory. |
